There is something irresistible about a four-leaf clover in gold — especially when it looks like this.

This vintage beauty has been engine turned, an old decorative technique where incredibly precise lines are cut into the surface of the gold using specialist machinery guided by a skilled operator. The resulting decoration is often called guilloché. The machine guides the repeating geometry, while the operator controls the work. Here, those radiating lines are spectacular: sweeping across the front and covering the entire reverse, they give the clover an almost sunburst effect, flashing and changing as it moves.

And then there’s the clover itself. For centuries, finding a rare four-leaf clover has been considered a symbol of extraordinary good luck — traditionally, its four leaves are said to represent faith, hope, love and luck. With only around one four-leaf clover occurring for every several thousand three-leaf clovers, finding one has always felt a little bit magical.

Beautifully detailed, wonderfully vintage and carrying one of jewellery’s happiest symbols, this is the kind of charm that feels like a tiny talisman. A little piece of luck in gold — and far too special to let get away.

Details: Weighs 1.3g. 2.2cm W ; 2.4cm H and 3cm with bale. No hallmark but tested at 13.8ct gold. Has some tiny numbers at the bottom of the clover - can't see without a loupe - could be a lucky date?
