Italian 18ct puffy genie lamp! Make a wish!!!

There’s something wonderfully magical about a genie lamp — a symbol of wishes, possibility and the delicious idea that something extraordinary might be waiting just around the corner. And finding one like this in vintage 18ct Italian gold? That feels rather magical in itself.

Beautifully puffy and three-dimensional, this little lamp has incredible presence for a piece weighing just under 2g. The sweeping spout curls upwards to a flame-like tip, while the domed lid, ornate pedestal base and sculptural handle give it the detail of a tiny golden treasure. It’s whimsical without feeling childish — beautifully made, wonderfully tactile and seriously special.

Stamped 750 for 18ct gold and 343 AR, it was made by GB Catene of Arezzo, one of Italy’s important gold-producing centres. The 343 AR registration was assigned to the maker in 1979, dating this piece to 1979 or later and giving us a wonderful connection to its Italian origins.
