GIANT shimmering 1984 Unoaerre 9ct Cornicello with UK hallmarks

There are charms… and then there are CORNICELLI. 🇮🇹 (listing is for the pendant only - other pieces are for styling purposes only).

For generations, the cornicello — literally “little horn” — has been worn in Italy as a symbol of protection, strength and good fortune. Most famously associated with Southern Italy, it is traditionally believed to protect its wearer from the malocchio, or evil eye: the bad luck thought to come from envy or ill intention.

Perhaps that’s why they remain so loved. They’re not simply beautiful gold charms. They mean something. Protection. Luck. Strength. A little piece of Italian culture worn close.

And then there is THIS one.

Made by Unoaerre in Arezzo, one of Italy’s great gold jewellery houses, its story becomes even better. Unoaerre was founded in 1926 and later took its name from its registered Italian maker’s mark, 1AR — the first registered goldsmith mark in the province of Arezzo.

At approximately 7.5cm long, calling this a “little horn” feels almost ridiculous. It is HUGE.

And that shimmering textured finish is incredible. It gives the gold an almost glittering surface as it moves — exactly the sort of beautiful finishing Unoaerre became known for, combining large-scale Italian jewellery production with a strong goldsmithing tradition and exceptional attention to finish.

But there’s another detail I absolutely love.

Although unmistakably Italian, this one also carries UK hallmarks — evidence of the next chapter in its life. Imported precious-metal jewellery intended for the British market was subject to UK hallmarking requirements and could be assayed and marked in Britain, creating pieces that carry clues to both where they were made and where they travelled. Britain has specifically identified imported precious-metal wares through hallmarking since the 19th century.

And carrying one of Italy’s most enduring symbols of protection and good fortune.

This isn’t a little lucky charm.
