Pegasus is one of the most famous creatures of ancient Greek mythology — a magnificent winged horse born from the blood of Medusa after she was slain by the hero Perseus. Pegasus was later ridden by the Greek hero Bellerophon, most famously in his battle against the fearsome Chimera. Eventually associated with Zeus and immortalised as the constellation Pegasus, the winged horse became a powerful symbol of freedom, courage, imagination and inspiration. Legend also connected Pegasus with the Muses, giving him an enduring association with poetry and creativity.
